The Premier League Asia Trophy is a knockout competition between four of the league’s top teams. Now in its ninth edition, the 2019 tournament kicked off with Newcastle v Wolves and Man City v West Ham. The dramatic final, held at Shanghai’s Hongkou Football Stadium, saw winners Wolves overcome reigning champions Manchester City in a thrilling penalty shootout.

From 2019/20 Avery Dennison will be the new official supplier of Premier League names, numbers and sleeve badges. To celebrate the premiere of this new partnership at the Asia Trophy tournament, Avery Dennison gave fans the chance to customize their shirts with "Smart Embellishment" sleeve badges. When scanned with our Smart Reader app, the badges unlocked exclusive content – including the chance to win 2 match tickets to the tournament itself.
Zhijun Wang’s exclusive design
To mark the first Premier League event with Avery Dennison as the new official supplier, we invited Chinese sneaker designer and mask artist Zhijun Wang to create a limited edition smart sleeve badge.
Famous for turning sneakers into masks, Zhijun Wang has worked with huge sports brands such as Nike, New Balance and ASICS. His work has graced the feet, and faces of celebrities worldwide; from the NBA’s James Harden to One Direction’s Liam Payne. As one of the hottest sports and streetwear designers in the world, we were thrilled to collaborate with him.
His design symbolizes Chinese pride, with the country’s name emblazoned on a waving flag, while incorporating the signature staggered stripe of the Premier League brand. Limited to 50, these smart-enabled badges embody the cutting-edge creativity of China and the continent, making him the perfect collaborator for both Avery Dennison and the Asia Trophy.

From this season onwards, all of our Premier League names, numbers and sleeve badges will be embedded with smart digital technology. Fans will be able to access exclusive in-app experiences by scanning and authenticating their products. RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology will be applied to every pack, making stock control more intelligent, and every product will be made from water-based materials, avoiding all harmful solvents and hazardous substances.
